Nestled in a secluded valley, Hoshinoya Karuizawa is more than just a luxury resort—it’s an immersive experience in nature, wellness, and refined Japanese hospitality. As Hoshino Resorts’ first flagship property, this intimate retreat seamlessly blends contemporary design with a deep reverence for its surroundings. The accommodation consists of individually designed villas, each offering floor-to-ceiling views of Karuizawa’s lush landscape, allowing guests to feel completely enveloped by the seasons.

The resort’s defining feature is its natural hot springs. Guests have access to two distinct baths: Tombo-no-Yu, a semi-public outdoor onsen framed by vivid autumn leaves, and the private Meditative Bath, where the thermal waters are accompanied by soft candlelight and quiet serenity. From forest meditation sessions to starlit dining experiences, Hoshinoya Karuizawa curates every moment to encourage deep relaxation and an appreciation for the rhythms of nature.

The Location

Tucked away in Nagano Prefecture, Karuizawa has long been a retreat for city dwellers seeking cool mountain air and a slower pace of life. The town, located just an hour from Tokyo by Shinkansen, is renowned for its autumn foliage, boutique-lined streets, and historic hot springs.

Hoshinoya Karuizawa’s setting is particularly special—it sits within a private valley village, surrounded by forests and a meandering river. Guests can explore the resort’s specially curated walking trails, visit nearby Harunire Terrace for artisanal cafés and shops, or venture into the Karuizawa Wild Bird Sanctuary to experience the region’s vibrant biodiversity.
